GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITIES
For more than 95 years, Asplundh has been helping communities build and maintain safe and effective power. We started right here in the Philadelphia area and are still headquartered there. We’ve grown to provide the same great service to communities across the country, including Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
Beyond keeping the lights on
We’re there to keep power lines clear but are often called on to help communities recover from hurricanes, ice storms, and other natural disasters. When a storm or emergency puts the lights out, Asplundh is there to help them get back on quickly and safely. Community and sustainability are not just parts of our business. We live and work in the same communities. Our people are part of and support local schools, churches, hospitals, sports clubs, non-profits, and other institutions in their neighborhoods.
Making a lasting impact
Supporting our neighboring communities is a mission we take to heart. Whether through tree planting campaigns, providing vegetation to local zoos, promoting eco-friendly line-clearance practices, or providing job opportunities in the green industry, our colleagues are dedicated to nurturing, protecting and sustaining the environment for future generations.
A Winning Partnership:
Asplundh Teams Up with the Phillies
We are proud to announce that Asplundh is one of the “Official Community and Sustainability Partners of the Phillies!” We are excited about the potential of this strategic partnership rooted in our mutual values of tradition, teamwork, and a deep commitment to our communities.
For more than 95 years, Asplundh has served the utility industry, helping communities build, recover and thrive in a changing world. We are thrilled to welcome Asplundh, a world leader in our own backyard, to the Phillies family as they join us in several important causes.
We’re very excited to partner with the Phillies and work with the team to strengthen our long-standing ties to the Philadelphia community established over the last 95 years. Sustainability and medical advancement in treating ALS are important initiatives to Asplundh, and we look forward to collaborating with the Phillies and the community to advance these goals.
Making an Impact On and Off the Field
As the team’s Community and Sustainability Partner, we are aiming for a home run on several key initiatives aligned with the Phillies:
Phillies, Fans and Asplundh Rally in Support of MLB’s Lou Gehrig Day
$800,004 Raised for ALS Patient Care and Research to #StrikeOutALS
Thanks to the support of Phillies fans and the generosity of Asplundh and their employees, $800,004 was raised to #StrikeOutALS during the team’s annual ALS Awareness Night at Citizens Bank Park. This amount includes an on-field donation of $365,000 made by the event’s presenting sponsor, Asplundh, in honor of its former Chairman of the Board/CEO Scott Asplundh, who is battling ALS. Monies raised will benefit ALS United Mid-Atlantic and go toward much-needed research, care and services for ALS patients.
The ballpark-wide event, held in conjunction with MLB’s league-wide Lou Gehrig Day, was a continuation of the Phillies’ efforts to make a difference for those battling this fatal disease. The Phillies have helped raise more than $23.8 million for the cause since the club’s relationship began in 1984 with ALS United Mid-Atlantic.
“Our 40-year mission to strike out ALS remains unwavering as we aim to offer hope and help to the courageous individuals affected by this awful disease,” said Phillies Charities, Inc. President John Weber. “Everything we did tonight, and will continue to do, is in hopes of advancing effective treatments and ultimately the cure for ALS. Thank you to Asplundh, and to all who joined us, to aid ALS United Mid-Atlantic in their efforts.”
HOME RUNS FOR TREES
Swinging for the fences, planting for greener communities
Asplundh is the proud sponsor of the Phillies Home Runs for Trees program. For each home run hit by a Phillies player, a tree is planted in the Greater Philadelphia area by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. More than 2,000 trees have been planted in the community since the program started in 2012.
As part of the 2024 tree planting event, 201 Phillies Home Runs for Trees, donated by Asplundh, were distributed, with some tagged with the names of the Phillies’ top home run hitters this past season, including Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, Trea Turner, Brandon Marsh, Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto, Bryson Stott and Edmundo Sosa. Read more here.
Restoring a field of dreams
In the 1930s and ’40s, the Philadelphia Stars lit up Negro Leagues baseball with their talent and enduring spirit. Today, their memorial park stands as a tribute to that proud history and a place where the community can reflect and remember.
But like the special memories it holds, the time-weathered park deserved care and attention. So together as one, the Phillies, Asplundh and Independence Property Services teamed up for a clean-up mission. Together, we rolled up our sleeves to bring refreshed energy to the space where the Stars’ legacy is honored and the community can enjoy for generations to come. Watch the video.

COMMUNITY GIVING: ASPLUNDH IN ACTION
Toy Drives Across the Country
Giving on the holidays is a coast-to-coast effort at Asplundh. Among the many toy drives our employees took part in across the country were a Toys for Tots drive at the Home Office in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Spark of Love toy drive at a California office of Asplundh Engineering Services (AES). The Home Office has been part of Toys for Tots drives for more than 20 years, and this time filled up more than two donation boxes for a local branch of the charity. AES took part in the Spark for Love Toy Drive which is sponsored in part by the Southern California Firefighters and collected two boxes of toys and donated several new bicycles for children in their region.
2024 Gopher State One Call 5k Run and Walk
Six employees in Wayne Bailey’s Region in Minnesota took part in the 2024 Gopher State One Call 5k Run and Walk, an annual event to raise money for charity while promoting the practice of safe digging. This year the event was held at at Bde Maka Ska’s Thomas Beach on August 10 in Minneapolis and proceeds went to support Twin Cities Firefighters Operation Warm, an organization that provides winter coats for children in need. The participants were (from left) Trimmers Nathanael Katterson and Dylan Martinez, Forepersons Jonathan Niesche and James Wright and Regional Safety Trainer Pedro Martinez. Foreperson Igor Burlakov also took part in the event but wasn’t available for the photo.
Saluting Branches
Asplundh employees from multiple regions across the country take part every year in Saluting Branches activities at national veterans cemeteries. The last event was held on September 18, 2024. Saluting Branches was founded in 2015 as an organization of arborists dedicated to veteran remembrance. The group organizes a day of service every year. In 2024, more than 4,500 people volunteered at 100 veteran properties and donated more than $1 million worth of services to make sure the grounds were cared for.
Asplundh Partnership with the Phillies
Asplundh teamed up with our home-town baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies, in 2024, providing a fantastic opportunity for the company to connect with the community in meaningful ways. As an official community and sustainability partner of the team, Asplundh has raised more than $715,000 for ALS research and care through ALS United Mid-Atlantic and have funded the planting of more than 200 trees in the Philadelphia region through the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society as part of the Phillies’ Home Runs for Trees program.
Climbing for Fallen Firefighters
Garrett Helmke, a tree trimmer in Jesse Long’s Region in Wisconsin, took part in the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s 9/11Memorial Stair Climb, an event held in venues across the country that asks participants to raise money by walking up the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center, which was destroyed by terrorists in 2001. The event Garrett participated in on September 7 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay attracted nearly 2,200 who climbed to raise more than $127,000. In addition to working for Asplundh, Garrett is a captain with the Armenia Volunteer Fire Company in Wisconsin. He is also responsible for his department’s safety training, which overlaps well with his work as part of a tree crew on Mansfield Electric property. For information on the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, its 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and to make a donation, visit firehero.org.
Supporting Cristo Rey
Asplundh’s second class of Cristo Rey students concluded their academic year in the spring of 2025 with presentations in the company’s board room. on the Asplundh has partnered with the private college preparatory high school in Philadelphia since 2023, providing roles for students in the school’s work-study program. The most recent group of work-study students participated in meetings, developed documents for presentations, digitized files for organization efforts, used excel for project work, and helped set up workstations with equipment. The students rotated in their departments with different team members to get an understanding of the different functions within the team. Asplundh is committed to providing financial support to Cristo Rey and its work-study program, which has placed its students in leading Philadelphia area companies since the school’s founding in 2012.
Camp Out for Hunger
In November 2024, employees at the Home Office in Willow Grove collected nearly 2,000 pounds of food donations for Preston & Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger. The food drive is the nation’s largest single food collection event and last year collected more than 1.6 million pounds of food and more than $995,000 in cash donations for Philabundance, a food bank that delivers meals to people in need throughout the greater Philadelphia region. Asplundh became a sponsor of Philabundance this year and made a $5,000 donation to the organization in November.
